COUNTERFEIT

Besides being a light fantasy date, the eagle on the back looks like it recently enjoyed a meal.

This is a fantasy strike. There were no Morgan Dollars struck in Carson City in 1902.

A rather deep die scratch that distends from the eagle’s beak gives the impression that it recently was dealing with prey; hence, “Bloody Eagle.”

The final identifying mark of a Bloody Eagle is a die scratch that stretches from above Liberty’s eye and goes down to her “sideburn area.”
